A Fall Choral Concert

Under the direction of Dr. Donald St. Jean, with performances by the RIC Chorus, RIC Chamber Singers, Tenor/Bass Chorus, and Dr. Judith Stillman. Featured work: To Bigotry, No Sanction - a cantata by Jonathan Comisar. Based on George Washington's letter of 1790 to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport, RI. In the letter, Washington offers assurances of the inalienable rights of American citizens regarding religious freedom.
At the concert the RIC Chorus, along with student and faculty instrumentalists, will present To Bigotry No Sanction with soloists, Cantor Judy Seplowin of Temple Beth El, Providence (co-sponsor of this performance), soprano Lori Phillips, mezzo-soprano Mary Phillips, tenor Brad Logan, and bass Matthew Quinn.
Additional Performances
In addition to the featured work, the program will include performances by Dr. Judith Stillman, Chamber Singers and Tenor/Bass Chorus. Other selections on the program include Samuel Barber’s Agnus Dei, Aaron Copland’s The Promise of Living from his opera, The Tender Land, David Conte’s setting of the Langston Hughes poem, I Dream a World, Gwyneth Walker’s The Road to Freedom, music of Salamon Rossi, and more. Admission is free.
