Fulfilling Our Mission

As an HSI and MSI, RIC educates the most diverse cross-section of Rhode Islanders in the state. Doing so we fulfill our mission of serving the breadth of diversity in the State of Rhode Island. 

RIC seeks to become a first-choice institution for any Rhode Islander seeking an affordable, high-quality education in a diverse and inclusive environment and we have made it a central goal of the 2024 Rhode Island College Strategic Compass

President Jack Warner is a member of Excellencia in Education’s Presidents for Latino Student Success, a group of college and university presidents committed to making their institutions learning environments where Latino students thrive.  

RIC is a member of HACU, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.  

What is a Hispanic Serving Institution?

  • It is a federal designation from the United States Department of Education.
  • Rhode Island College is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) by meeting federal guidelines of enrolling and retaining at least 25% of full-time undergraduate students who identify as Hispanic/Latinx/Latine.

What is a Minority Serving Institution?  

  • It is a federal designation from the United States Department of Education.  
  • MSIs are colleges and universities that support and provide educational opportunities for people who have historically faced barriers and inequalities in pursuing and accessing higher education.
