Our master's program in mathematical studies will deepen your understanding of advanced mathematics and their role in the world. Students will build on their undergraduate studies, developing quantitative and abstract reasoning and the ability to use mathematics as a computational and analytical tool. Our program produces graduates who exhibit knowledge, comprehension, and creativity in the practice of mathematics as they pursue a variety of career opportunities.
The M.A. in biology program allows you to broaden and deepen your knowledge base, engage in independent research and data analysis, and develop advanced scientific writing and oral communication skills.
Graduate students in the M.A. in biology program design and execute an original field or laboratory-based research project, conduct literature searches on timely biological topics, evaluate and synthesize primary source materials and develop the advanced scientific writing and oral communication skills necessary to interact effectively with fellow scientists in the professional arena.
The M.A. in mathematical studies provides a solid foundation in some of the major areas of mathematics, an appreciation for the structures and theories of advanced mathematics and a deeper understanding of the role of mathematics in the world. In the mathematical sciences graduate program, each student has an individualized plan of study based on their goals and interests. This program provides for the advanced study of the biological sciences and their application in the laboratory.
Upon completion you will have research experience and written communication skills in a specific area of biology, demonstrate advanced knowledge through graduate-level course work, and be prepared for the rigors of professional programs.
Our program educates students about the major content areas and science of psychology. They attain an understanding of psychological theory, principles, scientific methods and data analysis. They also grasp the ability to be critical consumers of psychological literature and the ability to conduct independent research. Prospective graduates prepare to integrate psychological principles and methods of inquiry in applied and/or research settings. With a diverse student body that includes recent college graduates and returning adult learners, this program offers a variety of career goals ranging from professional development to pre-doctoral preparation.
The M.A. in Psychology is the only terminal master's degree in Rhode Island to offer graduate education in the general science of psychology. The faculty at RIC have expertise in a variety of areas and work closely with students in the classroom and in research. Full-time faculty members teach the courses, and the low student-faculty ratio offers a personalized experience.
