Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo has appointed Rhode Island College President Frank D. Sánchez for a two-year term as delegate to the New England Board of Higher Education.​

Sánchez was named president of Rhode Island College in 2016 and has over 25 years of experience advancing higher education policy, programs and services to improve college completion and success. Previously he served as vice chancellor for student affairs at the City University of New York, the nation's largest urban public university, serving over 500,000 students.

“I am honored to accept the governor's appointment and enthusiastic to serve on the board at a time when higher education is facing such unprecedented change,”​ said Sánchez.

The New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) promotes greater educational opportunities and services for the residents of New England. In pursuit of this mission, the agency works across the six New England states to:

Engage and assist leaders in the assessment, development and implementation of sound education practices and policies of regional significance.

Promote programs and best practices to assist the states in implementing important regional higher education policies.

Promote regional cooperation and programs that encourage the efficient use and sharing of educational resources.

Provide leadership to strengthen the relationship between higher education and the economic well-being of New England.

Sánchez joins a distinguished group of delegates from academia, private industry and on the NEBHE board.

Other Rhode Island delegates to NEBHE include: Representatives Gregg Amore, Rhode Island General Assembly; Commissioner of Postsecondary Education Brenda Dann-Messier, Rhode Island Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner; Senator Louis P. DiPalma, Rhode Island General Assembly; President Daniel P. Egan, Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Rhode Island; Senator Hannah M. Gallo, Rhode Island General Assembly; ​Representative Joseph M. McNamara, Rhode Island General Assembly; and Associate Vice President for Community, Equity & Diversity Naomi R. Thompson, University of Rhode Island.
