Explore the Advantages
Explore the advantages of making Portuguese part of your career path. Our B.A. degree in modern languages, with a concentration in Portuguese studies, will help you acquire the necessary second-language skills and cultural background essential for teaching professionals, health and public service employees, business managers and executives, and graduate programs. Many students have successfully and strategically paired a Portuguese concentration or minor with their primary field of study.
The Portuguese Studies Program at Rhode Island College is proudly supported by the Institute for Portuguese and Lusophone World Studies (IPLWS), which awards scholarships and provides internship opportunities to Portuguese studies students, organizes cultural and academic events, and conducts research projects in Portuguese and Lusophone studies. With support from the IPLWS, students have the opportunity to experience the cross-cultural benefits of study abroad in a Portuguese-speaking country for a summer or up to a full year.
