My name is Silvia Adames. I was born in the Dominican Republic and came to the US in search of better opportunities for myself and my family. I am a first-generation college graduate. After working in several jobs, I found my passion in serving one of the most vulnerable populations, the elderly, as a CNA. This experience, combined with my cultural background, has shaped my approach to social work. I am currently a student in the social work program at RIC and have been selected for the 'Center of Excellence for Latinx/Hispanic Social Work Practice'. My dream is to serve the growing community of Latinos and immigrants, using a culturally competent approach that respects their unique experiences and empowers them to better themselves.
