My name is Helaryn and I’m pursuing social work because I want to help those in need. As a first-generation Guatemalan female, I have experienced first-hand how difficult it can be to access resources and obtain the supports needed to succeed. My experience includes working with adults with persistent and severe mental health illness and/or substance use. I also have experience working specifically with Spanish-speaking population and trying my best to bridge gaps in healthcare. After completing my MSW degree I aspire to continue to work with adults and the Latinx community to help them address their trauma and build coping skills that will improve their overall wellbeing and be successful adults in their communities.
