Bias Response Committee
Purpose
The purpose of this committee is to enhance Rhode Island College’s commitment to best practice in diversity, equity, and inclusion for faculty, staff, and students.
Duties
This committee will support the Office of Institutional Equity by:
- Reviewing reports of bias incidents submitted to the Director of Institutional Equity
- Identifying trends and patterns in bias incidents for the purposes of recommending preventative solutions, based on best practices
- Submitting meeting minutes and producing an annual report for the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Membership
The committee shall be comprised of the following members:
- Chair: Director of Institutional Equity
- Dean of Students, or designee
- Two (2) faculty members designated by the College Council Chair
- Director of Center for Disability Access or designee
- Director of the Unity Center, or designee
- Undergraduate representative appointed by Student Community Government
- Graduate representative appointed by the Dean of Graduate Studies
- Director of Human Resources, or designee
- Campus Police Chief, or designee
Appointed employees will hold their positions for at least two (2) years. Appointed students will hold their position for at least one (1) year. All members may continue their appointment until replacement members are appointed.
Additional members may be called upon to offer specific expertise if deemed necessary by the core committee.
