"African American art is infused with African, Caribbean, and the Black American lived experiences. In the fields of visual and performing arts, literature, fashion, folklore, language, film, music, architecture, culinary and other forms of cultural expression, the African American influence has been paramount. In 2024, we examine the varied history and life of African American arts and artisans."
- Association for the Study of African American Life and History
The Unity Center and Alumni Relations are joining forces in the creation of Artistic Expressions through Black Culture, an on-campus art exhibition and talent showcase in celebration of African Americans and the Arts. This event is co-sponsored by the Black Alumni Network, the Dialogue on Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and the Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion.
All month long, RIC's Black Brilliance: An Arts Exhibition will proudly display works by Black creatives.
Our live talent showcase (Wednesday, February 21, 5:30–7:30 pm) will be a night of art, song, dance, poetry, and theatre performance by our Black RIC talent.
Register to Attend the Talent Showcase
Please Note: Food will be provided at the talent showcase and both the exhibit and the showcase will be held in The Beestro (ground level of the Student Union).
