Applying to the Feinstein School as a Second Degree Student

Quickly Understand the Process

If you are enrolled as a Second Degree Student at RIC you will follow a plan of study created with your advisor, which includes a list of program coursework and other requirements leading up to when you apply for admission to the Feinstein School. Program choices for a second bachelor's degree from Feinstein mirror our undergraduate program choices. Admission requirements may be very similar to undergraduate admissions; however, there will be differences.

Feinstein Application Steps

Rhode Island Background Check

Every Feinstein student who works with children/youth/adults must maintain a current Criminal Background Check (BCI) from the Attorney General’s Office. The BCI is required before entering a classroom or community space, virtually and/or face to face, whether observing, tutoring, teaching and/or participating in any type of community activity.

GPA Requirements

Applicants must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. (Once you are admitted to RIC, your cumulative GPA is based on your grades in your RIC coursework.) If you meet all of the admission requirements except for your GPA, you may apply for conditional admission to a program.

Foundations Course Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Complete Feinstein course requirements (if listed on your plan of study) and Foundations (FNED) course requirements.
  2. Pass FNED 101: Introduction to Teaching and Learning. (This is a requirement for all incoming freshman and transfer students admitted to RIC in Fall 2019 and later.)
  3. Earn a grade of B- or better in FNED 246: Schooling for Social Justice.
