If you have a master’s degree in counseling or a related field, Rhode Island College’s C.G.S. in advanced counseling will give you the additional coursework, practicum and internship experiences you need to satisfy the state’s academic requirements for licensure. As a CACREP accredited program, our program meets the rigorous training standards set by the counseling profession. Our clinical mental health counseling program is the only such program in Rhode Island accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs and one of only 15 in New England.
Students acquire cutting edge writing, analytical, qualitative and quantitative presentation skills while working toward this advanced degree. The program takes an incisive look at issues of equity and fairness in connection with the broader fields of social and criminal justice.
Imbued by a philosophy of rigorous training, our program maintains a very low faculty to student ratio. Tuition costs for the discipline also rank among the lowest in southern New England and GRE waivers are granted to RIC and University of Rhode Island alumni for disciplines connected to the social sciences.
