RIC Theater/Film Student Wins L.A. Web Fest Award

And that's not the only recognition he achieved. His mockumentary “World’s Worst Director” was made an official selection at the LA Web Fest. Loosely based on his life, the series follows a director as he works on his newest Web film.

Web films are videos, generally in episodic form, released on the Internet or by mobile or cellular phone as part of the new emerging medium called Web television. The festival consisted of a three-day-long workshop, panel and screening of Web shows. Chitwood attended with his parents in late March. On the third day, more than 600 awards were presented in the following genres: animation, documentary, comedy, drama, dramaedy and mockumentary. 

Chitwood has been producing Web films since 2009 at the age of 16. In that year he co-founded the Angelwood Pictures production company with Jordan Angelo and created their first Web series “The Dreamer.”

“Originally the mission of Angelwood was to provide Barrington students with the experience of working in front of, or behind, the camera,” he said. “Over 40 students were cast in ‘The Dreamer.’ No one was paid. All work was done on a volunteer basis.”

In 2010 Angelwood produced “Them,” casting Barrington adults alongside teenagers for the first time. “Them” is a film short about a family that is able to move back and forth through time.

Angelwood Pictures is currently working on a third Web series called “Family Problems,” about a family that buries a body in the woods. The story is told in three different eras: 1995, 2012 and 2044.

Chitwood is a double major in film studies and theatre performance at Rhode Island College. After completing his studies in the fall, he hopes to move to Los Angeles to write for television.
