- News Brief: 5 RIC Theatre Alum in Trinity’s “La Cage Aux Folles”
“I can’t think of a finer or more talented group to represent Rhode Island College,” says theatre professor.
Five graduates of RIC’s theatre program are cast members of Trinity Rep’s “La Cage Aux Folles” – Alexander Crespo Rosario ’21, Dylan Michael Bowden ’22, Alex LeBlanc ’24, Kevin Patrick Martin ’09 and Jennifer Mischley ’97.
“I can’t think of a finer or more talented group to represent Rhode Island College,” says Professor of Theatre Bill Wilson.
Based on a French play of the same name, “La Cage Aux Folles” tells the story of Renato, the proprietor of a drag nightclub in Saint-Tropez, and his long-term lover and drag star, Albin.
Comedic complications arise when Albin’s son, who is straight, announces that he’s getting married. Unfortunately, the bride’s father is ultra conservative.
To ensure that the marriage goes off without a hitch, Albin uses his skills as a drag performer to play mom for a meeting with the in-laws. Before long, they learn that playing it straight isn’t as easy as it seems.
This Tony-Award-winning musical comedy, which runs from May 30 to June 30, is filled with flamboyant, charming characters and deep laughs.
