Graduate Assistant for Social Work, Office of Practicum Education

One full-time (20 hours per week) or two part-time (10 hours per week)

Primary Purpose

Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Practicum Education, to assist the Director in generating new ways of communicating with the student population, creating effective and efficient strategies to capture student feedback about their practicum expectations/outcomes, developing new Practicum sites, recruiting new Practicum instructors, as well as reconnecting with former Practicum sites/instructors to guarantee that the Practicum Education Office is offering and implementing high quality social work practice training for undergraduate and graduate students of the RI College School of Social Work.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Practicum Education and/or assignees,

  • Research and develop new practicum sites
  • Reconnect with former practicum sites
  • Provide follow-up and problem solving on current placement challenges
  • Create/expand social media site/content for Office of Practicum Education
  • Act as liaison to MSWSO
  • Assist the Director in fostering effective reciprocal communication with community members and stakeholders. This may include web site /content development and/or creation/distribution of paper goods/materials, such as flyers, posters, and/or newsletters.
  • Research and create an evidence based qualitative survey to capture student feedback about Practicum Education experiences.
  • Draft and finalize reports regarding the results of the student feedback surveys for the BSW, MSW I, and MSWII cohorts.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment as an MSW I or MSW II graduate student.
  • Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills
  • Excellent Organizational Skills, including time management, attention to detail, and follow-up drive
  • Ability to engage in interactions as a member of the Practicum Education Office and the broader school community, including the RIC campus.
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to initiate and maintain interpersonal relationships with school faculty, staff, student body, and community stakeholders, such as Practicum supervisors and agency staff.
  • Willingness to travel to possible and current Practicum Education sites.
