World Languages Education MAT Program Specifics

The Rhode Island College MAT in World Languages Education teacher preparation program invites applications from multilingual adults who already hold a bachelor's degree and wish to teach languages in K-12 schools.

Who Can Participate

If you have a strong undergraduate background in French, Portuguese or Spanish, the MAT in world languages education will prepare you for a teaching career at all levels of instruction.

Strong Candidates

Here are a few examples of strong candidates for the World Languages Education MAT program. If your experience and aspirations are similar, we encourage you to apply!

  • a person who holds a degree in public relations from the Dominican Republic who wishes to teach Spanish
  • a person who holds a degree in political science from Senegal who wishes to teach French
  • a person who holds a degree in business from Brazil who wishes to teach Portuguese
  • a person who holds a degree in French, Portuguese, or Spanish language/literature from the US or another country

What to Expect

Along with coursework, you will engage with local language communities through multiple field placements in K-12 and community-based settings. You will also have many opportunities to learn and practice advocacy for language education at the local, state and national levels.

Graduate Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, you will be eligible for full certification to teach world languages in all grades (pre-K-12) in Rhode Island.
