14th Annual Anchor Club Golf Day Set for July 14

Rhode Island College’s Athletic Department will host its 14th Annual Anchor Club Golf Day to benefit student-athlete programming on July 14 at Valley Country Club in Warwick.

Foursomes may register at $175 per golfer. Individual golfers will be placed with a foursome, if available. Sponsorships ranging from $75 to $5,000 also are available at www.goanchormen.com. Registration deadline is July 9.

The golf tournament is the Athletic Department’s major summer fundraising event and annually draws between 120 and 132 golfers. The Valley Country Club course is 18 holes with a par 72. Golf registration includes:

·      Green fees with cart

·      Player gift

·      Lunch

·      Social hour

·      Dinner

·      Longest drive and closest to the pin competitions

“This tournament supports RIC Athletics in continuing its tradition of building champions,” said Greg O’Connor, assistant athletic director. “The day also is a great chance to reunite with friends and support the development of RIC’s student athletes.”

The day begins with registration and lunch at 11:30 a.m. Golfers will have a shotgun start at 12:45 p.m. and will have the chance to take part in tournament features including a hole-in-one contest sponsored by Fox Toyota-Scion and a putting contest sponsored by Enterprise.

The tournament follows a best ball format.

“The exclusive Valley Country Club is truly a golfer’s dream,” O’Connor said. “It features picturesque views, challenging greens and pristine fairways.”

Anchormen supporters also can attend just the dinner portion of the event for $40 per person. Dinner includes a live and silent auction, as well as a raffle. Prizes and items up for bid will include Red Sox tickets, PPAC tickets, Cardi’s Furniture gift cards, TaylorMade golf clubs, foursomes to seven local golf courses, tickets to the PGA Tour Deutsche Bank Championship, RIC Athletics merchandise, gift certificates to local restaurants, hotel stay packages and autographed sports memorabilia.

RIC’s Student-Athlete Development Program supports the athletic and educational development of over 350 student athletes who play in 21 varsity sports. Support services for students include the Champs Life Skills Program, the Faculty-Staff All-American Mentoring Team and the Student-Athlete Success Center, where students can study and access resources and athletic department staff.
