Terms beginning with 'G'

A Compuserve Graphics Interchange Format image. GIF is an older, but very popular, format designed to store images which do not contain very many subtle color tones.

GIF images have remained popular largely because they are widely supported, provide a method of indicating transparency, and can be animated fairly easily.

GIFs are appropriate for logos, images with titles and text, and line drawings or cartoon-like images.

For photographs or other complex images consider using JPEG files.
