A Cookie is a small piece of information sent from a web server to a user's machine. Generally, the purpose of a cookie is to track and remember some aspect of the user's settings, configuration, or preferences (for example, to remember their user name).

To some degree, cookies can be used to track a person's movements online. Modern browsers offer a variety of privacy settings to reduce this concern.
