Individualized TESL Off Campus Cohort IV

ESL Certification For Classroom Teachers 2013

TESL Off Campus Cohort Program

Do you work with English Language Learners (ELLs) or wish to qualify yourself for ESL teaching positions?

RIC's M.Ed. in TESL program is offering an off-campus graduate course sequence (seven courses) for Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Teachers (English and All Content Area Teachers; Modern Language Teachers). This is a fast-track route for certified classroom teachers, which provides interested teachers with their ESL certificate in three semesters and one summer session.

Outside LinkAdmission in the M.Ed. in TESL program is required for participation in the cohort. This program is intended for newly enrolled graduate students or prospective graduate students who have completed no more than one TESL course.

Advantages Of The Cohort Model

  • West Bay Collaborative, 144 Bignall Street, Warwick, RI
  • Reduced tuition and no fees! Cohort scholarship tuition rates save approximately $100 per graduate course, AND you do not have to pay any college fees. The overall savings is 10% from the on-campus rate!
  • Guaranteed completion of the coursework leading to the ESL certificate by December 2014*. Compact delivery of courses into 8-week sequences allows students to complete the courses required for the ESL certificate within three semesters and one summer session.
  • Community of learners approach. Participants will develop collegial networks with their classmates and engage in meaningful classroom-related coursework throughout the program; students will be encouraged to collaborate with their peers and will receive support from full-time faculty or seasoned ESL professionals throughout the program.
  • Hybrid course design. Each course combines face-to-face with online instruction for maximum flexibility of course delivery.

* Candidates seeking ESL certificate in the state of Rhode Island must complete all of the TESL courses listed and pass the Praxis Test English to Speakers of Other Languages. (Test 0361).
