Civic Engagement and Aging

The RIC Gerontology Center hosted a conference on Civic Engagement and Aging on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Faculty Center Main Dining Room. The conference examined civic engagement of older adults.
Topics included a new paradigm of civic engagement for those 50+; the resources of the National Service Senior Corps Programs that engage older adults in meeting community needs; volunteer driven programs of Meals on Wheels; volunteer opportunities available for older adults through the RISPCA, and the best practices for civic engagement emerging from Experience Corps.
The event, which is supported by the College Lectures Committee, AARP-RI, and AGES, was open to the public free of charge and offered continuing education credit.
