RIC student presents at sociology society meeting in New York

Kelley Conti, a RIC senior sociology major, presented a poster at the Eastern Sociological Society meetings in New York City in February. The poster draws on her independent research as part of the sociology Honors program.

For her project, she has interviewed 42 parents about their experiences with and views about sex education programs. Her research was supported by the DeStefano Fund for Undergraduate Research.

“I've been her faculty adviser this year, and while her data analysis is still ongoing, I am quite excited about the potential that this project has,” said Mikaila Mariel Lemonik Arthur, assistant professor of sociology at RIC.

Conti also won a travel award from Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD), the international honors society for sociology, which supported her travel to present her work.

Graduating Honors students had the opportunity to present their work as a poster session on May 4th, 2009; in addition, every year RIC honors Sociology and Justice Studies alums who have made a difference.
