The Paul V. Sherlock Center on Disabilities is pleased to offer Community Provider Organizations a flexible and cost effective way to meet the new training requirements for persons providing employment support to individuals with Developmental Disabilities and/or Intellectual Disabilities.

The Supporting Meaningful Employment (SME) Training Series includes 12 modules and corresponding field work assignments to meet ACRE Certificate requirements. Each module is 3.5 hours of training. Completion of all 12 modules is strongly encouraged to ensure employment professionals are knowledgeable and skilled in all areas of community employment services. Participants may choose to register for the full SME ACRE approved series or to register for one of the "mini-series" to focus on a single skill area. See requirements below. The Sherlock Center will also periodically offer "Best Practices in Employment Services", a one-day refresher for experience employment professionals.

The SME Training Series is ACRE approved. To earn an ACRE Certificate, participants need to attend all 12 ACRE Modules (40 contact hours) and complete the required fieldwork assignments. Employment professionals may earn the certificate by attending 12 half-day sessions or 6 full-day sessions and satisfactorily completing the required fieldwork as assigned the day of each session. Upon completion of the requirements, participants will submit a request to the Sherlock Center to issue an ACRE Certificate. The modules and fieldwork assignments must be completed within 24 months to meet ACRE Certificate requirements

The SME curriculum is approved by the Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE) for a Basic Certificate in Employment Services. ACRE is a national organization of training providers and professionals. Employment Services curriculum is reviewed by ACRE to meet competency based standards. Completers of ACRE training are listed in a national certificate registry.
SME Certificate Series

Individuals may register for one or more SME Mini-Series. Each series will result in a certificate in a specific skill area - Vocational Assessment and Employment Planning, Job Development, and Job Retention and Coaching. To receive a "Certificate of Completion" the participant will complete specific modules (as indicated below) and satisfactorily complete the required fieldwork assignments. Note: Some modules are applicable to more than one certificate.

SME Mini-Series certificates are not ACRE Approved certificates. However, participants can earn an ACRE Certificate by completing all three SME Certificates, along with the required fieldwork assignments, within a 24-month period.

Certificate Requirements
Vocational Assessment and Employment Planning Certificate Half-Day Modules 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 plus satisfactory completion of required fieldwork
Job Development Certificate Half-Day Modules 1, 6, 7, 8, & 9, plus satisfactory completion of required fieldwork
Job Retention and Coaching Certificate Half-Day Modules 1,6, 10, 11, & 12, plus satisfactory completion of required fieldwork

Online Registration Form

Please use the online registration form to register for any of the SME Training Series options, including the Refresher session and Module Make-up sessions.

Space is limited. First priority is given to BHDDH DD provider organizations and Self-Directed Support staff/representatives.

Sessions are offered free of charge to participants working for a RI organization, which includes Self-Directed Supports staff/representatives..

Fees apply for participants working for out-or-state organizations/locations. The full ACRE Series is $500; Mini-Certificate sessions are $200 per certificate.

Registration deadlines vary by session. Refer to the training schedule for specific registration deadlines.

The Sherlock Center reserves the right to cancel any session due to low enrollment.
