Summer Institute on Teaching Writing

The Rhode Island Writing Project’s Summer Institute on Teaching Writing

July 15 - Aug 2, 2013
Old Alumni House, Rhode Island College

This three-week RIWP Institute is open to all practicing teachers, K-16, in all content areas who are seeking a renewed sense of purpose as teachers of writing. This is our 28th Summer Institute, a fellowship program for teachers who want to strengthen their instruction as teachers of writing and examine pertinent questions and challenges in the field.

The 2013 RIWP Summer Institute meets at Rhode Island College, July 15th to Aug 2nd, 9:00am to 1:00pm, Monday through Friday. This year’s Institute is co-facilitated by Dr. Jenn Cook, Director of the RIWP, and Madonna Thompson, English teacher at North Providence High School.

We seek a group of thoughtful, committed educators who are ready to share their expertise and experience with others. We seek K-16 teachers of all subject areas who are using, or who would like to use, writing to support students’ literacy development and content knowledge. Applicants should have classroom experience.

We invite you to join us this summer for a transformative experience with like-minded colleagues. You may also forward this invitation or encourage qualified teachers to apply. The fee for this three-week, three-credit, graduate-level course is $700.
