Thomas Jackson was a frequent Master of war vessels including in 1778 the sloop Fanny in 1779 the sloops Friendship, Endeavor and the sloop Providence, a vessel with 6 guns and a crew of 60 men. In 1780 he was Master of the sloop Black Snake.
