New RIC award for teaching excellence given to Randy DeSimone

Randy DeSimone, associate professor of management and marketing, is the first-ever recipient of RIC’s Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching.

On April 29, RIC President Nancy Carriuolo made a surprise visit to DeSimone’s class in Alger Hall to announce his award. Accompanying her were Nancy Blasdell, assistant professor of nursing and chair of the selection committee; David Blanchette, dean of the School of Management; and Ron Pitt, vice president for Academic Affairs.

The new award recognizes an individual whose overall sustained teaching excellence sets her/him apart. Nominations were solicited from the full-time faculty, and a committee of nine faculty drawn from all five of RIC’s schools reviewed the nominees’ documentation and made the selection.

The award will be officially presented at Opening Convocation on August 25. As part of the award, DeSimone will make a presentation in the fall.
