The ensemble, which has enjoyed a long, successful tradition of RIC performances, will play Barber’s String Quartet, Op. 11; Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 3 in D Major, Op. 44, No. 1; and Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 8 in E Minor, Op. 59, No. 2.

Founded in 1979, Muir is considered one of the premier string ensembles in the U.S., with a lineup that includes violinists Peter Zazofsky and Lucia Lin, violist Steven Ansell, and cellist Michael Reynolds.

In addition to their annual performances at RIC, the quartet performs throughout North America and has been in-residence at Boston University’s College of Fine Art since 1983.

Muir has given master classes at Curtis, Eastman, Oberlin, and Rice and is the resident chamber ensemble at Deer Valley Festival. The quartet also performs benefit work for Classics for Kids Foundation, which offers matching grants in support of strings programs nationwide.

According to The New York Times, Muir has “the sound, the depth and interpretive polish to rival the best in the world.”
