RIC Invitational choral concert set for Nov. 6

Rhode Island College’s 6th Annual High School Invitational Choral Concert will be performed on Friday, Nov. 6, at 8 p.m. in the Nazarian Center’s Sapinsley Hall.

This varied and popular event will also include performances by the RIC Chorus, the RIC Chamber Singers and other student-run ensembles. The finale of the show will be a massed choral piece sung by all ensembles performing.

The concert will be conducted by Teresa Coffman, RIC professor of music who oversees the choral program, conducts several choruses and teaches studio voice lessons. Since 2002, under her direction, the RIC choirs have completed concert tours of Ireland, Great Britain, Italy, Vienna, Slovakia and Prague.

This year, because of schedule conflicts or funding issues, only one school, Somerset High School in Massachusetts, will participate. RIC alum Richard Sylvia '08 is the conductor of the guest chorus, and is bringing approximately 100 student performers to sing on the RIC stage.

"The event is not adjudicated," said Coffman. "It is simply an evening of sharing and music-making."

Sponsorship by the RIC Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association, the RIC Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance, and the RIC Chorus make the event possible.

Admission to the concert is free. For more information about upcoming musical events at RIC, go to www.ric.edu/pfa.
