New England Basketball Hall of Fame has RIC feel

Thirteen people with ties to Rhode Island College were inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame at a ceremony held at Mohegan Sun on Oct. 9.

RIC Athletic Hall of Famers Jo-Ann D’Alessandro ’88, Cathy Lanni ’88, Claudia DeFaria ’96, and Mike Van Leesten ’65 were inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame. Former RIC women's player Jerilynn Johnson along with DeFaria, were enshrined for their careers at CCRI.

Current RIC associate director of records Dennis McGovern was inducted for his career at the University of Rhode Island.

RIC Athletic Hall of Famer Charlie Wilkes '64 was inducted as a contributor, while former players Gerald '71 and Donald Suggs were enshrined as high school players.

Former player Sean Reddy and graduate Jim Donaldson '40 were honored as high school coaches.

In addition, RIC Athletic Hall of Famer and current coordinator of student-athlete development G. Gail Davis ’60 received the Ronald S. Perry Award for coaching.
