Showtime for RIC music faculty members Oct. 15

The Faculty Recital on Thursday, Oct. 15, will feature a program of vocal and instrumental solo and chamber music performed by Rhode Island College music professors. The concert, set for 8 p.m. in the Nazarian Center’s Sapinsley Hall, is sponsored by RIC’s Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

The recital will feature pianists Philip Martorella and Michael Kregler, flutist Mary Ellen Guzzio, and a new member of the voice faculty, Steven Smith.

Several genres of music will be included in the program, including works from the classical piano repertoire, opera arias, jazz pieces and a Latin influenced work, a movement from the Sonata Latino by Mike Mower.

“It’s nice to see the professors on the other side of the stage,” said Lindsay Mason, a RIC music performance major. Mason and others with that major perform in front of the music faculty every semester.

Robert Franzblau, assistant chair of the Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance, has said the music faculty “are active members in the New England music scene.” RIC music professors appear regularly throughout the area, and many are members of various elite professional ensembles, such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Rhode Island Philharmonic.

General admission is free. For more information about upcoming concerts, go to www.ric.edu/pfa.
