Rhode Island College’s music programs had a highly visible presence last month at the Music Educators National Conference Eastern Division Conference, held in Providence March 12-14. The College had a booth in the main exhibit area where music teachers and prospective graduate students could learn more about RIC’s programs and offerings. In addition, the booth offered an excellent place for RIC alumni to gather and reconnect with faculty and classmates.
RIC also was present at a college fair held in conjunction with the conference, where high school musicians participating in the All-Eastern band, orchestra, and choir could learn more about the College's baccalaureate programs in music.
Among the RIC faculty members participating in the conference were Teresa Coffman, Joseph Foley, Robert Franzblau, Denise Guilbault, Mary Ellen Kregler, Edward Markward, Fredric Scheff and Susan Wood.
RIC students, staff, and faculty also worked behind the scenes to help make the conference a success. The Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts loaned choral risers and acoustic shells to make performances at the conference more enjoyable. The Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance loaned several large percussion instruments for the visiting bands and orchestras to use. In addition, RIC music students and faculty spent several hours volunteering to move all the equipment from the College to the Rhode Island Convention Center. The RIC display was created by Lance Gorton of News and Public Relations and Dan Gannon of the Physical Plant.
