Alumni Events Offer Chance to Connect

Alumni can stay connected to their classmates and the RIC community at several events this summer and fall, including a scenic reception, a polo match and the annual golf tournament.

“These events provide alumni a great chance to catch up with one another, to reminisce about old times and to learn what’s happening at the college today,” said Bill Fazioli ’86, RIC Alumni Association president.

The Alumni Reception at Narragansett will be held Thursday, Aug. 7,  6-8 p.m. at Oceanside at the Pier Restaurant and Bar. Alumni will enjoy served hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar for $15 per person.

Karen Schnabel ’06, who serves on the RIC Alumni Association Board of Directors, said this event is among her favorite alumni activities.

“It is nice to see new faces and alumni who attend many of our exciting events,” Schnabel said. “I also love talking with students who help with the event. It’s amazing to see how perspectives have changed over the years and to learn about the unique challenges of the younger generation.”

Next on the calendar is the Alumni Summer Gathering at the Newport International Polo Series. Alumni will gather on Saturday, Aug. 23 for the Newport vs. New York match at 4 p.m.

Newport International Polo matches take place at Glen Farm in Portsmouth.

Alumni will enjoy light refreshments with their ticket, at $20 per person. The venue has several vendors for food and drink, but guests also may bring their own beverages.

On Monday, Sept. 22, the Annual Alumni Association Liberty Mutual Cup Golf Tournament will take place at Cranston Country Club.

The golf tournament is one of the association’s most popular events, drawing foursomes from across class years and the RIC community.

Golfers may register for $125 per person. The tournament has a 1 p.m. shotgun start, with registration and lunch at 11:30 a.m.

“Attending RIC alumni events allows us the opportunity to reconnect with fellow alumni and socialize and network with RIC professionals,” said Judy Spremulli ’03, RIC Alumni Association vice president. “Those who attend experience the feeling that you remain part of the unique RIC community.”

The fall 2014 RIC Homecoming Weekend will be held Friday and Saturday Oct. 17 and 18. This year’s theme is “Designing our Future,” and the weekend will feature festivities for the entire family.

Registration for all alumni events is available at www.ric.edu/alumnievents or by calling Alumni Affairs at (401) 456-8086.
