Greg Gammell Named GNAC Men’s Golf Coach of the Year
Providence, R.I. – Rhode Island College Head Men’s Golf Coach Greg Gammell was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Coach of the Year after guiding the Anchormen to their third consecutive league championship.
This is the third consecutive season Gammell has received this honor (2012, 2011). RIC clinched the program’s third straight title by placing first (nine teams) and registering a score of 609 (305, 304) at the 2013 GNAC Championships, hosted by Johnson & Wales on Oct. 19–20. The Anchormen will head to the NCAA Div. III Championships in May, also for the third consecutive campaign.
During the fall of 2013, the Anchormen won the Trailblazer Invitational on Sept. 19, while placing second at the Westfield State Invitational on Oct. 26. RIC took third at the Elms Invitational on Oct. 2. The club closed out the fall campaign with a 16th place finish at the NEIGA Championships on Oct. 27-28.
Sophomore Jonathan Cooper (Berkley, Mass.) was the Anchormen’s representative on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Senior Tim Leigh (Somerset, Mass.), the GNAC Player of the Year, and Cooper were First Team All-GNAC All-Star selections by order of their finish at the championships.
Junior Patrick Ford (Halifax, Mass.) was a Second Team All-GNAC All-Star.
RIC will resume competition in April 2014.
