Former RIC President Nazarian & Former Head Softball Coach Morin Inducted into Little East Hall of Fame
Providence, R.I. – Former Rhode Island College President John Nazarian ’54 and Head Softball Coach Maria Morin were inducted into the Little East Conference Hall of Fame at a gala event held at the Providence Marriott.
Nazarian served as the first president of the Little East Conference during the league’s formation and later became the league’s first representative on the NCAA President’s Council. During his tenure, Nazarian played a key role in both Rhode Island College’s and the Little East Conference’s ascension to national prominence. He helped lay the groundwork for an amazing transformation in RIC’s athletic facilities, student-athlete support and success on the fields of competition, while serving in a leadership capacity with the LEC.
Morin guided RIC’s softball program for 18 seasons from 1995-2012 and has more wins than any other coach in Rhode Island College history, having compiled a 458-257-4 career mark. She guided the Anchorwomen to five consecutive Little East Conference Regular Season Championships (2009, ’08, ’07, ’06, ’05) and four straight Little East Tournament Championships (2009, ’08, ’07, ’06). RIC made five NCAA Tournament appearances under her tutelage, reaching the National Championship Round in both 2007 and 2008, and won 20 or more games for 13 consecutive seasons from 1999-2011.
