RIC Nursing Alumnus Wins 2013 GEM Award

Linda Zabbo ’75 won the 2013 Giving Excellence Meaning (GEM) Award by Nurse.com. A registered nurse for 30 years, Zabbo was recognized as the RN who best exemplifies outstanding clinical knowledge and nursing expertise in caring for patients in the home, community and ambulatory care.

She is an employee of the VNA of Care New England, coordinating telemonitoring and cardiac care. Patients send their vital signs each day via the telemonitoring unit, and Zabbo is often the first person a patient contacts when they are experiencing a change in their condition.

“It is rare to find an individual who has devoted 30 years to the nursing profession and still finds excitement in its challenges and looks forward to figuring out how to make it better,” said Nancy Roberts, president and CEO of VNA of Care New England. “We are grateful that she shares her talents with us and we know, because we hear it each day, that the patients, their families and other health care providers feel the same.”
