Alumni Volunteers Needed; Learn How to Help at Info Session Feb. 5

The Rhode Island College Alumni Association is holding an information session Tuesday (Feb. 5) from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge at Roberts Hall to recruit new volunteers and showcase the many opportunities available.

“Volunteering with the Alumni Association is a great way for alumni to reconnect with Rhode Island College,” said Kate Brezina, executive director of alumni affairs. “We’ve got a variety of volunteer opportunities, from serving on a board or committee to assisting at one of our many events.”

Sharon Gleckman ’84 was among 40 alumni who attended the information night last year, and she’s since become active on three committees: Donor Outreach, Homecoming and the Scholarship Committee.

“When I attended RIC, all my professors were very supportive, so I wanted to give back to Rhode Island College in a meaningful way,” Gleckman said. In fact, she added, “I intend to join another committee this year.”

The Rhode Island College Alumni Association hosted a variety of events throughout the region, attracting more than 1,500 alumni last year. Brezina said the association is hoping to increase the number of events – and participation – this coming year.

Brezina said volunteers are needed for the Board of Directors, Alumni Communications Committee, Alumni Awards Committee, Book Awards Committee, Alumni Association Golf Tournament Committee, Scholarship Committee, RICochet Committe, Alumni Donor Outreach Committee, Homecoming Committee and Young Alumni Group.

Representatives of the various committees and events will be on hand Tuesday night to answer questions, she said.

“We’ve got lots of volunteer opportunities available, whether you’re available once a month or once a year,” Brezina said. “Join us Tuesday night to find ways you can get involved.”
