More Than 250 Turned out for Graduate Studies Open House
Graduate studies programs at Rhode Island College were in the spotlight yesterday, as more than 250 people turned out for the annual Graduate Studies Open House.
Rhode Island College offers 37 nationally recognized graduate programs and 13 graduate certificate programs, explained Leslie Schuster, interim dean of graduate studies. Several faculty members and students from each graduate program were on hand to answer questions.

Most of those attending the open house were professionals considering graduate studies to improve their skills, Schuster said. “The goal is to give these professionals and prospective students an opportunity to talk directly to faculty and students about the graduate programs they are considering, perhaps to learn about the nature of the program, how it will fit their professional interests, or to clarify a question about the application process.”
The program covered everything a student needs to know about graduate school, from exams and requirements for entering a program to what to expect once they’re enrolled.
New this year were five tutorial sessions on preparing the application essay. In addition, representatives from financial aid were available to discuss funding options, and staff from the Records Office helped new students register for classes in the spring.
One of the participants remarked afterwards, “It was very helpful to meet one-on-one with someone from the program who could answer my questions.” And another said, “Everyone was very excited about graduate school.”
