Ballet Folklórico de México to perform at Rhode Island College, Oct. 2

The breathtaking dance troupe Ballet Folklórico de México will feature a company of 40 dancers and a live band in a Performing Arts Series presentation on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Roberts Hall Auditorium.

Founded in 1952 by Amalia Hernández, an award-winning dancer, teacher and choreographer at the Mexican Academy of Dance, the troupe is the oldest and most celebrated dance company in Mexico.

Bold choreography, elaborate costumes and a lively tradition of folklore create performances that Hernandez has called a “pure expression of [Mexican] roots.”

Ballet Folklórico de México features Mexican dances from the pre-Columbian era, the Haspainic Viceroy period and the popular period of the Revolutionary years.
