RIC names John McLaughlin admissions director
Rhode Island College has announced that John A. McLaughlin has been appointed director of admissions, effective April 30.
“It’s gratifying to me that John will bring his great leadership skills and extensive professional experience to Rhode Island College, which offers students an opportunity to receive a first-rate education at the first institution of public higher education in Rhode Island,” said Holly Shadoian, interim assistant vice president of academic affairs. “We are delighted to have John join our management team as director of admissions.”
Most recently, McLaughlin was director of admissions at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay, Mass., where he worked closely with other academy officials in developing a strategic plan for growth and diversity.
Prior to that, he served in various positions at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass., including admission counselor, associate director of admission and director of transfer admission, where he lead the effort to recruit students from other two- and four-year institutions.
He was also an admission counselor at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Mass.
McLaughlin received a bachelor’s degree in English from Merrimack College and a master’s in education with a concentration in psychological studies from Cambridge College in Cambridge, Mass.
McLaughlin, who comes to RIC with over a decade of experience in college admissions, said, “It is exciting to be a part of the Rhode Island College community and its proud tradition of excellence. I look forward to working with a terrific admissions staff that has a wealth of experience, energy and enthusiasm, and serving as a leader and representing the college and its mission both on and off campus.”
