Pianist Simone Dinnerstein to appear at RIC, April 22

Internationally acclaimed classical pianist Simone Dinnerstein will appear in a Performing Arts Series presentation at Rhode Island College on Sunday, April 22, at 2:30 p.m. in the Nazarian Center’s Sapinsley Hall.

Her concert program will include Bach compositions from her January 2012 album, “Something Almost Being Said: Music of Bach and Schubert.” In its first week on sale in the United States, the album made Billboard’s Top Current albums in all genres and reached No. 2 on the Billboard Classical Chart.

The New York-based musician gained a worldwide following when she recorded “Bach’s Goldberg Variations.” She raised the funds to pay for the recording, which was named to many “Best of 2007” lists including those of The New York Times, The New Yorker and The Los Angeles Times.

Dinnerstein has performed around the world, from New York to Vienna and Tokyo to Scotland, and has been featured on radio, television and in many publications in the United States, Great Britain, Germany and elsewhere.

The Brooklyn resident in 2009 founded Neighborhood Classics, a concert series open to the public hosted by New York City public schools, where performers donate their time to raise funds for the schools.

TIME magazine praised Dinnerstein for her “arresting freshness and subtlety,” while the Washington Poste wrote, “Dinnerstein’s readings … [are] poised, elegant, wonderfully played.”
