Sen. Whitehouse to visit RIC on Nov. 21 to discuss Pell Grants
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) invites the Rhode Island College community to a candid roundtable discussion on the importance and impact of Pell Grants on Monday, Nov. 21, at 10:30 a.m. in the Faculty Center South.
Whitehouse will provide an update from Washington about the status of the Pell Grant program and recount his efforts to protect the program from severe budget cuts that could have a grave impact on grant awards.
The senator is encouraging students to attend the event and share their personal stories on how the Pell Grants have made a difference in their ability to pursue a college education.
For students who are unable to attend the event, Whitehouse welcomes their letters to tell their stories.
These roundtable discussions are critical as the Congressional super-committee continues to work to identify ways to reduce the federal deficit.
It is Whitehouse's position that the Pell Grants should not be part of any deficit reduction package. This past September, he introduced a resolution in the Senate to defend Pell Grants and has urged Congress to protect the grants.
