Fiery flamenco star José Porcel returns to Rhode Island College with his company of dancers and musicians to perform their thrilling new program "Gypsy Fire," a folkloric celebration of the new flamenco with spectacular costumes, energy and sex appeal.

The Performing Arts Series welcomes Compañia Flamenco José Porcel to RIC on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium in Roberts Hall.

Porcel, a premiere dance performer from Seville, Spain, is a former star of the National Ballet of Spain where he interpreted works including "Medea", "Ritmos" and "Bolero de Ravel."

In 2000, he danced as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, and toured the world as the first dancer in the Compañía Española de Antonio Márquez, including critically acclaimed appearances in the U.S. of the United States during the 2001-02 season.

Porcel and his dazzling company return to RIC as part of an encore tour of the U.S. and Canada following a sensationally successful coast-to-coast North American tour in 2008-09.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal described Porcel’s dances as “evocative and exciting, blending traditional flamenco with some decidedly more contemporary music, moves and looks.”

Tickets for Compañia Flamenco José Porcel are $35. Discounts are available for seniors, children and RIC faculty/staff/students/alumni. Purchase tickets in advance with Visa, MasterCard or Discover, by calling (401) 456-8144 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays; online at; or in person at the Nazarian Center Box Office in Roberts Hall. The Box Office is also open for sales two hours prior to performance start time in the appropriate show venue.
