Former Henry Barnard School student Rana DiOrio, author of award-winning children’s books, returns to the school on Oct. 17 for several classroom presentations based her books and experiences.

She will also be donating books to the Henry Barnard School Library.

DiOrio is CEO of Little Pickle Press, a children’s media company she founded in California and publisher of her books, including “What Does It Mean To Be Global?”; “What Does It Mean To Be Green?”; and her newest release, "What Does It Mean To Be Present?"

“What Does It Mean To Be Global?” garnered a National Best Books 2009 Award (USA Book News) for Children’s Picture Book: Hardcover Nonfiction.

She said her curiosity about the world began in a claw-footed bathtub full of pillows in her kindergarten classroom at Henry Barnard School, where she learned about Western access to China and panda bears.

Her fourth-grade teacher, F. Haven Starr, Jr., is currently Henry Barnard’s assistant principal.
