RIC Athletics to hold $2,000 golf ball drop at Homecoming

Over $2,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded in a special Golf Ball Drop Extravaganza coordinated by RIC's Department of Athletics on Saturday, Oct. 1, as part of Homecoming 2011.

The event will take place on the throwing field in between Fogarty Life Science Building and the RIC Soccer/Track & Field Complex at 2:20 p.m.

Faculty, students, alumni and friends can purchase chances for $10 apiece. Prior to Homecoming, contact head wrestling coach Jay Jones at (401) 456-4615 or jjones@ric.edu to purchase a chance to win. Also see RIC wrestlers or other student-athletes around campus to buy chances.

Attendees will also be able to purchase a chance on Homecoming in a booth located near the Homecoming barbeque tent.

At 2:30 p.m., approximately 1,000 numbered golf balls will be hoisted up on a lift and dropped down to the field where there will be flags representing winning prizes. If the ball with your corresponding number lands closest to a flag, you will claim that prize.

There is no limit on the amount of chances that can be purchased.

Prizes include a grand prize of $1,000 plus $500 and $250 cash prizes, as well as numerous gift certificates and merchandise. A WXIN DJ will also be playing music at the event.

Proceeds from the Golf Ball Drop Extravaganza benefit RIC student-athletes and other campus organizations.

RIC student organizations that would like to take part in the event to raise funds for their specific needs should contact Jay Jones.
