In this RIC Performing Arts Series presentation – part of a five-state spring tour – choreographer Aszure Barton lends her unique and dynamic vision to a company performance that’s been critically praised and continually in demand.

Canadian-born Barton has created works for Mikhail Baryshnikov, The National Ballet of Canada, American Ballet Theatre and many others. She has performed with Hell’s Kitchen Dance, The National Ballet of Canada and Wendy Osserman Dance Company.

Over the years, her works have dazzled and exhilarated audiences in Europe, Brazil, Argentina, Asia, Africa, Canada and the United States.

Founded in 2002, Aszure Barton & Artists is an organization dedicated to the growth of artists and the production of contemporary dance performance. Though based in New York City, the company continues to develop acclaimed works around the world.

The New York Times wrote of a Barton performance: “A rare instance of a dance that feels as if it were plucked straight from the choreographer’s extremely specific imagination and set, full-grown, onstage.”
