Anchormen set to battle Penn State Behrend in NCAA tournament

The Rhode Island College men’s basketball team will make the trek to Oswego, N.Y., to battle Penn State Behrend in first-round action of the 2011 NCAA Div. III Men’s Basketball Tournament on Friday, March 4.

RIC (19-7) is making its fifth consecutive trip to the Big Dance and will face the Lions (23-4), who fell in the finals of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference to La Roche.

Oswego State (23-4), from the State University of New York Athletic Conference, will host Wells (17-11), from the North Eastern Athletic Conference in the other first round game.

The Anchormen are 6-4 in NCAA Tournament action under head coach Bob Walsh, reaching the Elite Eight in 2007 and the Sweet 16 in 2010.

The Anchormen claimed their fourth Little East Conference Tournament Championship for the program in the last five years (2010, ’08, '07) with a 62-49 win over Eastern Connecticut in the finals of the 2011 Little East Conference Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 26. RIC claimed a share of the LEC regular season championship, its fifth in seven years, with an 11-3 league mark.
