RIC Winter Choral Concert set for Dec. 10 in Sapinsley Hall

Warm up to the sounds of the RIC Winter Choral Concert on Friday, Dec. 10, at 8 p.m. in the Nazarian Center’s Sapinsley Hall.

The concert will be conducted by Teresa Coffman, and feature performances by Christina Breindel, pianist and assistant conductor, and Jeffrey Allard, guest pianist.

This year, the concert will showcase three of RIC’s choral ensembles – the RIC Chorus, Chamber Singers and Women’s Chorus. They will perform holiday favorites and works by noted composers throughout Western music history as well as non-traditional and lesser-known composers and pieces.

A highlight of the night will be “Symphony of Psalms,” written by Igor Stravinsky in 1930 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Coincidentally, the piece was written 80 years ago in December, which is why Coffman chose to honor the legendary work.

The RIC Chamber Singers will be singing “Quatre Motets pour le temps de Noël” by Francis Poulenc. Two student-run a cappella groups will also be performing in the concert – The Perfect Fourths, made up of four female music students, who will be singing a medley of holiday favorites, and Will Sing for Food, a co-ed a cappella group.

General admission is $10. Free admission for students, faculty and staff. For tickets, call (401) 456-8144. For more information, contact Teresa Coffman at (401) 456-9506.
