Invitation to the Chester Smolski Memorial Forum on Urban Development, Sept. 30

The James P. Adams Library at RIC, with the sponsorship of The Fellows of The Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts (RSA), will hold a panel discussion on Thursday, Sept. 30, from 4-6 p.m. in the Nazarian Center’s Sapinsley Hall.

The discussion – “Transforming Cities: A Vision for Providence, RI” – is a presentation of the Chester Smolski Memorial Forum on Urban Development and part of the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities grant to digitize the slide collection of the late RIC Professor Chester Smolski.

The panel will address Providence’s efforts in urban revitalization. Topics will include action steps and remedies during the time of deep recession, how to regain the momentum of the city’s transformation and how to repair the physical and cultural fabric of the city.

The panel will be moderated by Kevin Flynn, associate director for RI Division of Planning. Barnaby Evans, creator and executive director, WaterFire Providence; Marti Rosenberg, policy specialist, The Providence Plan; Mac Woodward, architectural historian; William D. Warner, architect and urban designer.
