About the School Hours
Just as it's important for our learners to acquire the habits of mind which will allow them to learn well, it is important that they also learn the habits of heart which will allow them to be resilient and successful in life. Two such habits we seek to develop are consistency and punctuality.
To develop consistency, we ask that parents see to it that their children are at school every school day unless they are ill or there is a family emergency which precludes their attendance. Deciding to just "take a day off" teaches children that they don't need to be serious about their obligations, and that's not a message we want to relay.
To develop punctuality, we ask that your children be at the school no later than 8:00am, at which time they should be in their classroom, coats and backpacks put away, ready to start the learning day.
Supervision for arriving learners begins at 7:45 each morning in the carport area. Learners may enter the school from that time until 8:00am, at which time they are expected to be in class and ready to work.
For the sake of your child's safety, please do not drop anyone off prior to 7:45am.
- Preschoolers will wait with an assistant teacher in the foyer until 7:55am, and then will be escorted to their classrooms.
- Kindergarteners through second graders should enter at the carport doors and wait in the hallway outside their classroom until the classroom door opens at 7:55am. Supervision will be provided by an assistant teacher, and children are welcome to talk quietly among themselves.
- Learners in grades three through five should enter via the doors by the gym, and wait in the hallway outside their classroom until the classroom door opens at 7:55am. Supervision will be provided by an assistant teacher, and children are welcome to talk quietly among themselves.
Since classes begin at 8:00am, any learner arriving after that time will be considered as late, and must be signed in by a parent at the main office, which can be accessed through the double door under the
Henry Barnard School sign.
