Jesus R. Ortega, CPA, MPAc, 2006

My Bachelor of Science from Rhode Island College provided me with the foundation of what I desired in a successful career. The Accounting major allowed me to learn from the expertise and experiences of the faculty. Their diverse levels of knowledge and educational backgrounds provide a portrait of what is really needed in today's financial environment. Yet an accounting degree alone was not sufficient for me to achieve my true potential and I enrolled in the Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAc) graduate program as soon as I finished my undergraduate work. The MPAc program was geared towards Financial Planning and added more building blocks to my understanding of accounting and helped me to evaluate the differing roads that an accountant can take to find their field of interest. The accounting profession has allowed me to attain valuable expertise not only in the public sector but in the private sector as well. All in all, Rhode Island College provided me with the education essential to achieving my professional goals in the future.

Today that foundational knowledge has helped me become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and has given me the desire to continue to improve my skills and master my profession. I am currently finishing a Master of Science in Taxation (MST) at Bryant University which will provide the additional skills necessary to continue to excel in my career as a Tax Accountant Professional for Hasbro, Inc. In the end, one must have the desire to continue to improve oneself to achieve true potential.
