Profile

André comes to the Child Welfare Institute, armed with a lifelong passion for learning, and a belief in the transformative power of education. His formal schooling includes a Bachelor of Arts, with a concentration in Photography, earned at Rhode Island College in May, 1993. He also obtained a Master of Science in Human Development and Family Studies, with a concentration in College Student Personnel, from the University of Rhode Island in May, 2006.

André has worked for the State of Rhode Island since 1994. He has held positons at the Department of Children, Youth and Families as Rhode Island Training School Juvenile Program Worker and a Probation and Parole Officer. He also worked for the Department of Corrections, Adult Investigation Unit as a Probation and Parole Officer.

While the day-to-day duties of these professional experiences slightly differed in scope, each role was enhanced by André's open method of communication, used to develop personal relationships and gain trust. André brings this same style of active listening and spirited discussion to his duties at the Child Welfare Institute. In 2012, André began working at the Child Welfare as a Clinical Training Specialist and the co-chair of the Leadership, Equity, and Advocacy for Dads (LEAD) Committee.
